It was a great day yesterday at Brandon's Elam-N8 Cancer Birthday Bash out at Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail. Regan was up at a rare 6 a.m. and even had enough time to grab a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and coffee before heading out to the festivities. I could have done without the fog, however. It was some of the worst fog I have ever driven in. It wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't navigating the back roads of Indian Trail looking for a school I've only been to once.
I ditched the 40-mile bike ride due to the fog (I wasn't convinced it would lift with the rain on the way), and instead ran the 5K with good friend Dennis Milligan. It was a good time. Post 5K and a medium chai latte the fog lifted and the sun came out in time for all assembled to have a nice lunch together. I think it was good for the Elams to see how many people still think of them and remember Brandon.
Spencer Lueders pointed out how strange it was to see Anita and Scott Elam standing on the platform alone. Indeed it was quite poignant and strange to not have Brandon physically there, as frail and fragile as he was standing there last year.
Must run and enjoy the sunshine after the insane storms that dominated yesterday. Much love, R.
