A friend chided me last week for not updating the blog. I had multiple reasons for doing this. None of them seem so compelling now in the light of 8:20 p.m. after weeks of no communication.
I figured I'd sit down, while still here at the offices waiting for pages to proof, and provide a quick update to let all of you know that I'm still alive, kicking and bitching.
24 Hours of Booty was great this year. I didn't bike as much as in years past, however, this also meant more time for socializing with friends, survivors and participants - which is definitely something I've missed out on in years when I've been trying to get miles in. Thanks to Sean Merewood for coming out and taking this great shot after prompting me to "kiss the guns."
Thanks also to all the friends who came out to send Keri off to Boston in style a Friday or two ago. We all had a great time and it was so great to see everyone - let alone play laser tag and bowl - two things I've decided I should've revisited since I was 12. Or maybe it's just that laser tag gets even more fun with age ... and black war paint.
My sister is now officially a Boston resident. More officially once I drive her stuff to her a week from now. Say a prayer for my friend Trish and me who will be braving the roads from fair, Southern Charlotte to the cold, wild heart of Beantown. Keri is studying HIV for the next two years with a bunch of lab mice - some cute, some misshapen, all rodents. I'm mucho proud of her and bemused by the calls I keep receiving filled with Animal Planet-esque facts I somehow missed out on all this time. Mice can't puke. Etc., etc.
Work has been a whole lot of insanity lately. Pick up the Football Night in Mecklenburg '09 area high school football preview being placed on stands as we speak. At an unprecedented 40 pages, it's absolutely AMAZING. Kudos to Sports Editor C. Jemal Horton, his talented staff of Aaron Garcia, Chris Hunt and Erica Singleton and the ever-talented, always amazing duo of Debbie Archer and Michael Kerr. Not only is this year's content action packed, but Debbie and Michael's design prowess really made the material pack a punch. You just kind find better people than all of them. I'm proud to have them in my proverbial foxhole. Of sports. And design. And stuff.
A big happy birthday salute to Lauren Moskowitz, who recently celebrated her birthday in style while putting up with my late-night dance moves at Andrew Blair's.
A big friendly shout out to my two favorite deli meat brands, Dietz & Watson and Boar's Head, for keeping our area news so interesting as of late. The Cold War of cold cuts has begun at area Harris Teeters at Boar's Head edges out Dietz & Watson in deli cases and D&W fights back with a public campaign underscoring Boar's Head's "anti-consumer, anti-choice tactics." It's meat madness at its finest.
I have to say, I understand, though. While I like both companies, I was a bit thrown to discover my Harris Teeter at Stonecrest had switched to Boar's Head. No more Gourmet Light Ham. No more Homestyle Turkey Breast. Sure, Boar's Head offers comparable products, but it's the uncertainty of it all that drives me nuts. I'm a creature of habit, even when it comes to cold cuts it seems.
See my story this week and please keep the letters to the editor coming. I want to see the beef battle wage on for weeks. With the visit tomorrow of D&W CEO Louis Eni to The EpiCentre tomorrow, I don't think it'll be a problem.
Sorry for all the story plugs. I think it's a function of sitting in my office while I type this.
There's more to edit, so off I go. Happy Wednesday to all of you. I promise to be in better touch soon.
And to all my friends who have complained about the lack of Regan cyber-stalking material lately, eat your hearts out. ;) xo
